The Basis of Judgment
1. Titles
Psalms 1:2 But they
delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.
Isaiah 34:16 Search
the book of the Lord, and see what he will do. Not one of these
birds and animals will be missing, and none will lack a mate, for the
Lord has promised this. His Spirit will make it all come true.
Romans 1:2 God
promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures.
Ephesians 6:17 Put on
salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word
of God.
Philippians 2:16 Hold
firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be
proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.
2. The Sword of the Spirit
Ephesians 6:17 Put on salvation
as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 For the
word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged
sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes
our innermost thoughts and desires.
3. Divinely Inspired
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to
teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It
corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
2 Peter 1:20-21 Above
all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the
prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those
prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
4. Reading and Exposition of the Scriptures
Nehemiah 8:8 They read
from the Book of the Law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was
being read, helping the people understand each passage.
Jeremiah 36:6 So you
go to the Temple on the next day of fasting, and read the messages from the
Lord that I have had you write on this scroll. Read them so the people who
are there from all over Judah
will hear them.
1 Thessalonians 5:27 I
command you in the name of the Lord to read this letter to all the brothers and
sisters.
5. Instruction of Children
2 Timothy 3:15 You
have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you
the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.
6. To be Intelligently
Examined
Acts 17:11 And the
people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they
listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day
to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 Work
hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good
worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word
of truth.
7. Fulfilled by Christ
Matthew 5:17 “Don’t
misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or
the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
8. As Regarded by the True
Believer
Psalms 1:2 But they
delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.
Psalms 19:7 The
instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The
decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
Psalms 119:72 Your
instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.
Psalms 119:97 Oh, how
I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.
Psalms 119:103 How
sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.
9. Not Subject to Change
Deuteronomy 4:2 Do not
add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands
of the Lord your God that I am giving you.
Matthew 5:18 I tell
you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail
of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.
Revelation 22:18-19 And
I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this
book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that
person the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone removes
any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s
share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.
10. The Basis of Judgment
John 12:48 But all who
reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I
have spoken.
