1. Commended
Ecclesiastes 7:8-9 Finishing is
better than starting. Patience is better than pride. 9 Control
your temper, for anger labels you a fool.
2. Exercised in Our Relations to God
Psalms 37:7 Be still in
the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t
worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.
3. A Fruit of Tribulation
Romans 5:3-4 We can
rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help
us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character,
and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
4. In Running the Christian Race
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith,
let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so
easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before
us.
Luke 8:15 And the
seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear
God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.
5. A Great Incentive
Romans 8:18 Yet what we
suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
James 5:8 You, too, must be patient. Take courage,
for the coming of the Lord is near.
6. Awaiting the Fulfillment of the Promises
Hebrews 10:36 Patient endurance is what you need now,
so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he
has promised.
7. Our Divine Example
Hebrews 12:2 We do this
by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our
faith. Because of the joy awaiting him,
he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of
honor beside God’s throne.
