1. The Spirit of Meekness
Galatians 6:1 Dear
brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who
are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right
path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
Ephesians 4:1-2
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of
your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and
gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults
because of your love.
Colossians 3:12 Since
God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with
tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Titus 3:2 They must
not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle
and show true humility to everyone.
2. Meekness Under Trial
Job 1:21 He said, “I
came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The
Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it
away. Praise the name of the Lord!”
Psalms 39:9 I am
silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you.
3. Cultivation of This
Grace
1 Timothy 6:11 But
you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue
righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and
gentleness.
4. A Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-26 But
the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and
self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who
belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful
nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by
the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our
lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be
jealous of one another.
5. Serving in Meekness
2 Timothy 2:24-25 A
servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to
teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25Gently instruct those who
oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will
learn the truth.
6. Moses the Man of
Meekness
Numbers 12:3 (Now
Moses was very humble—more humble than any other person on earth.)
7. The Fruits of Meekness
Psalms 25:9 He leads
the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.
Psalms 149:4 For the
Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.
Isaiah 29:19 The
humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice
in the Holy One of Israel.
Matthew 5:5 God
blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
8. Christ the Great
Exemplar
Isaiah 53:7 He was
oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as
a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he
openeth not his mouth.
