1. Required Under the Law
Deuteronomy 16:19-20
You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for
bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the
godly. 20 Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the
land that the Lord your God is giving you.
2. The Just Man Described
Proverbs 11:3 Honesty
guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.
Proverbs 11:5 The
godly are directed by honesty; the wicked fall beneath their load of sin.
Proverbs 20:7 The
godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.
Proverbs 28:6 Better
to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich.
3. In Resisting Temptation
Genesis 39:8-9 But
Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in
his entire household. 9 No one here has more authority than I do. He
has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I
do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”
4. An Honest
Administration
1 Samuel 12:4-5 “No,”
they replied, “you have never cheated or oppressed us, and you have never taken
even a single bribe.” 5 “The Lord and his anointed one are my
witnesses today,” Samuel declared, “that my hands are clean.” “Yes, he is a
witness,” they replied.
5. Job's Resolve
Job 27:4-5 my lips
will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies. 5 I will
never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I
die.
6. As Compared with
Perfunctory Religious Rites
Proverbs 21:3 The
Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we
offer him sacrifices.
1 Samuel 15:22 But
Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings
and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen!
Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than
offering the fat of rams.
Micah 6:7-8 Should we
offer him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive
oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our
sins? 8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and
this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love
mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
7. Rewards of Integrity
Psalms 18:20 The
Lord rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my
innocence.
Proverbs 28:20 The
trustworthy person will get a rich reward, but a person who wants quick riches
will get into trouble.
8. Open to Inspection
John 3:21 But those
who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing
what God wants.”
