1. Unmerited Favor
Deuteronomy 7.7-8 “The
Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more
numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all
nations! 8 Rather, it was simply that the Lord loves you, and he
was keeping the oath he had sworn to your ancestors. That is why the
Lord rescued you with such a strong hand from your slavery and from the
oppressive hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.
Ephesians 2:5 that even
though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ
from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
2. Manifested in Christ
John 3:16 “For God loved the world so
much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him
will not perish but have eternal life.
3. The Blessings Conferred by Grace
a. Salvation by Grace
Ephesians 1:7 He is so
rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his
Son and forgave our sins.
Ephesians 2:8 God saved
you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a
gift from God.
b. Adoption, Son ship
Ephesians 1:5 God decided
in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through
Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
c. Justification
Romans 3:24 Yet God,
with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through
Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
4. Exhibited in Character and Conduct
1 Corinthians 15:10 But
whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and
not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles;
yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.
2 Corinthians 1:12 We can say
with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God-given
holiness and sincerity in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s
grace, not on our own human wisdom. That is how we have conducted ourselves
before the world, and especially toward you.
Philippians 2:13 For God is
working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
5. Sufficiency of Grace
1 Corinthians 10:13 The
temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God
is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.
When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
2 Corinthians 12:9 Each time
he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in
weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the
power of Christ can work through me.
1 Peter 1:5 And through
your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this
salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
Revelation 3:10 “Because
you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time
of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this
world.
6. Growth in Grace
Psalms 84:7 They will
continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.
Proverbs 4:18 The way of
the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter
until the full light of day.
Ephesians 4:15 Instead, we
will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ,
who is the head of his body, the church.
1 Peter 2:2 Like
newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a
full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,
2 Peter 3:18 Rather, you
must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
All glory to him, both now and
forever! Amen.
