1. It is Good Tidings
Isaiah 40:9 O Zion,
messenger of good news, shout from the mountaintops! Shout it
louder, O Jerusalem.
Shout, and do not be afraid. Tell the towns of Judah, “Your God is coming!”
Isaiah 52:7 How
beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good
news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!
Luke 2:10 but the
angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that
will bring great joy to all people.
2. The New Covenant
Hebrews 7:22 Because
of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God.
Hebrews 8:6 But now
Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the
old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant
with God, based on better promises.
Hebrews 10:9 Then he
said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in
order to put the second into effect.
3. Contrasted with the Law
John 1:16-17 From his
abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. 17 For
the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came
through Jesus Christ.
4. The Gospel of Salvation
Romans 1:16 For I am
not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work,
saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.
1 Corinthians 15:1-2
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I
preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in
it. 2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe
the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never
true in the first place.
Ephesians 1:13
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves
you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by
giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
5. Brings to Light Life
and Immortality
2 Timothy 1:10 And now
you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And
when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you
the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
6. Dissemination of the
Gospel
Matthew 24:14 And the
Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so
that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new
disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am
with you always, even to the end of the age.”
