God Uses Defined: Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will
actually happen. In a religious sense
faith is applied particularly to God or to Christ, the author and finisher of
our faith. Belief generally indicates
intellectual assent to the evidence establishing the claims of the Scriptures.
Faith implies a confidence or trust which comes after the belief has been
established Heb. 11:1 Faith is the
confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance
about things we cannot see. 2
Cor. 5:7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. 2
Cor. 4:18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our
gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be
gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. Romans
8:23-25 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within
us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released
from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will
give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he
has promised us. 24 We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already
have something, we don’t need to hope for it. 25 But if we look forward to
something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) 1
Cor. 2:9-16 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for

11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come
to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely
seek him. 1
John 3:23 And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son,
Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. John
3:36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t
obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry

10:17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. John
20:31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is
the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by
the power of his name. 1
John 5:9-11 Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater
testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son. 10 All who
believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true.
Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don’t
believe what God has testified about his Son. 11
And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life
is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son

Faith Romans
10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your
heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by
believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by
confessing with your mouth that you are saved. James
2:17-20 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good
deeds, it is dead and useless. 18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have
faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if
you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” 19
You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you!
Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. 20 How foolish! Can’t
you see that faith without good deeds is useless? Made Right with God by

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I
will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” 6 So we can say with
confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can

11:4 It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than
Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God
showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks
to us by his example of faith. Hebrews

testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice
