1. Defined
Mat. 5.28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has
already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Mat 5:32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has
been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a
divorced woman also commits adultery.
2. Expressly Forbidden
Ex.20.14 You
must not commit adultery.
3. The Penalty
Ge.20.7 Now return the woman to her husband, and he
will pray for you, for he is a prophet. Then you will live. But if you don’t
return her to him, you can be sure that you and all your people will die.
Ex.22.16,17 If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged
to anyone and has sex with her, he must pay the customary bride price and marry
her. 17 But if her father refuses to let him marry her,
the man must still pay him an amount equal to the bride price of a virgin.
Ga.5.19,21 When you follow the desires of your sinful
nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful
pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility,
quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension,
division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and
other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone
living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
4. Christ's Treatment of an Instance
Jo.8.10,11 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the
woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
5. Paul's Urgent Injunction
Eph. 5.3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity,
or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.
